At 11:26 PM on Tuesday, February 11, 2020, Michael Bennet, U.S. Senator from Colorado, officially suspended his campaign for President. I honestly thought he’d at least make it until the 12th.

Day 267: 2/11/20
Tuesday was the first in the nation primary in New Hampshire, and Bernie Sanders pulled off a victory with not even 2% more of the vote than his runner-up, Pete Buttigieg. The story of the night is Amy Klobuchar coming out in third place, but it’s also of Andrew Yang and Michael Bennet ending their campaigns on the same day.

Over the weekend, knives were out. Joe Biden attacked Pete Buttigieg, who defended himself and criticized Bernie Sanders’ dark money group, who attacked Buttigieg for his billionaire donors, which Elizabeth Warren joined in on getting upset about, while Tulsi Gabbard stabbed at Tom Perez, who isn’t even in the race.

The Iowa Caucus was on Monday, and the eighth Democratic debate was on Friday, and in-between was a whole lot of confusion. Every candidate was trying to convince me to give them my money, and Deval Patrick insisted he had nothing to do with Iowa.

Day 262: 2/6/20
Finally, we have a winner for Iowa! According to the Iowa Democratic Party, it’s Pete Buttigieg!
According to the Bernie 2020 campaign, it’s Bernie Sanders!
And according to Tulsi Gabbard, the DNC is in charge of every election and also federal holidays.

Iowa has taken up more airtime than the State of the Union, even with Nancy Pelosi’s speech-ripping gesture. Despite that, the candidates are turning toward the CNN town halls, the debates on Friday, and New Hampshire’s vote next Tuesday.

Still no full Iowa results as of the time of this writing, but we have 71% reported in and Pete Buttigieg is running victory laps despite Deval Patrick comparing him to Trump. Bernie Sanders is glum about his standing, and Joe Biden is ecstatic about his fantastic showing.

As of the time of writing, the Iowa caucus results have not been announced. This hasn’t stopped campaigns from hyping their supporters up or bracing for bad news. Mike Bloomberg is dismissive of Iowa entirely, and Elizabeth Warren has decided that this is the official start of the primary and caucus season. Pete Buttigieg’s team stuck around to clean up, and Bernie Sanders was shouting about being attacked before the caucuses even began.

This is it. The official start of the 2020 Democratic Primary and Caucus season (though Elizabeth Warren argues differently). The Iowa caucuses begin in an hour, and by this time tomorrow, we should have our first delegates assigned. Final money pushes were all the rage over the weekend, with a few candidates also pushing for final get-out-the-caucus calls. Pete Buttigieg gave me some information on how the caucuses get scored and what we’re looking for.
