Exactly one week out from the election, and both campaigns are riding hard on their fundraising tactics.
For all new readers: Welcome! I am currently on the mailing lists of Joe Biden and Donald Trump, though I have previously been on the mailing lists of 28 Democratic candidates! This blog breaks down recent emails with charts and excerpts. If you already know all of this, feel free to skip to the next chart!
It took some time for the Trump emails to kick in, so I started officially tracking his list on July 7. I have been tracking Biden’s for longer, but I will start comparing them as of July 7. All of these emails are going to a new email, and I have not donated, filled out surveys, signed petitions, or otherwise interacted with either candidate’s emails.
The rules I try to follow for the various categories are laid out in The Framework.
Donald Trump sent 14 emails on Tuesday, while Joe Biden sent a massive 7.
Both Trump and Biden focused their emails on fundraising, though Melania Trump tried to shill the 2021 Trump-Pence calendars again after a brief stint of the campaign team taking over and SHOUTING AT ME THAT THIS WAS MY ONE CHANCE!
Melania came back with her no-all-caps email of gratitude and how much it would mean if I supported her husband by buying a calendar with hand-picked images.
While Biden asked me if I would go and vote for Biden and Harris, Trump asked me if I’d sign up for his Trump Text Membership, in which I would get texts pointing me to exclusive offers like priority access to merch and surveys only for his top supporters.
Again, as always, this is what I already get.
Trump also invited me to become a member of the Trump 1000 Club (no offer of a Trump $1000 bill anymore), a Trump MVP (with a crap picture of a trophy) and part of the Official First Family’s Circle.
In all of these clubs, I would be part of the most exclusive and elite membership of Trump supporters, with opportunities to fund his campaign and get emails from First Family members like Don Jr., Eric, and Lara Trump.
…which I already get.
Trump is continuing to shit hatred into my inbox, while Biden is growing increasingly worried about falling behind on his $100 million donation goal. He’s begging me to donate something, anything, because these last few days are where he has to put it all on the line and he’s going up against pro-Trump Super PACs pouring millions into the race.
Trump, meanwhile, has decided that the fake news media is throwing away what little remains of their credibility by doing anything they can to help their candidate win.
That reminds me of when the Senate Republicans threw away what was left of both their credibility and the credibility of the Supreme Court to ensure that their candidate would win. But hey, it’s a better story if you add Fake News, right?
