Donald Trump really needs money, guys.
For all new readers: Welcome! I am currently on the mailing lists of Joe Biden and Donald Trump, though I have previously been on the mailing lists of 28 Democratic candidates! This blog breaks down recent emails with charts and excerpts. If you already know all of this, feel free to skip to the next chart!
It took some time for the Trump emails to kick in, so I started officially tracking his list on July 7. I have been tracking Biden’s for longer, but I will start comparing them as of July 7. All of these emails are going to a new email, and I have not donated, filled out surveys, signed petitions, or otherwise interacted with either candidate’s emails.
The rules I try to follow for the various categories are laid out in The Framework.
Donald Trump sent 15 emails on Wednesday, while Joe Biden sent 6.
Trump is seriously trying to wheedle money out of me. He’s promised me the VERY LAST 600% match EVER, as if that’s something special (and then 800% matches all the rest of the day). He’s offered me not one, but two free gifts if I donate $45.
And the contests…
Wednesday alone, I had the chance to win:
- A signed gold convention star from the stage Trump gave his RNC speech from (only 50 available, own a piece of history!)
- A 2020 Freedom Hat, signed by Trump himself (it’s his FAVORITE hat, don’t you know?)
- A chance to meet Trump at an unspecified future rally because he is the most high-energy president ever with rallies attended by thousands of people
- A chance to party with Trump and Melania on their election night party in DC (2 emails)
All of these contests were for me specifically. Trump was asking why I hadn’t entered. He was looking for my name. He wanted me to win.
If he wanted me to win, why did I have to compete?
Biden, on the other hand, was encouraging me to volunteer by sending an email sent by a volunteer who explained why she was volunteering. He invited me to a virtual town hall with Sanders and Progressives for Biden. And he, yes, asked for money.
While Biden is simply worried that anything could happen, reminding me how in 2016, Hillary won the popular vote by 3 million votes and still lost, so we can’t assume we’ve got this easy, Trump was worried that he was losing my support, demanding to know why I hadn’t donated yet when it was so clear that Sleepy Joe and Phony Kamala were being REJECTED by America.
After all, if I haven’t put in the $30 to buy Melania’s 2021 calendar (the email sent was telling me how grateful she was for my support with NO all-caps shouting!), am I really a top supporter?
