Donald Trump sends a lot of emails, but if they’re just repeating earlier emails, do they really count as additional ones?
For all new readers: Welcome! I am currently on the mailing lists of Joe Biden and Donald Trump, though I have previously been on the mailing lists of 28 Democratic candidates! This blog breaks down recent emails with charts and excerpts. If you already know all of this, feel free to skip to the next chart!
It took some time for the Trump emails to kick in, so I started officially tracking his list on July 7. I have been tracking Biden’s for longer, but I will start comparing them as of July 7. All of these emails are going to a new email, and I have not donated, filled out surveys, signed petitions, or otherwise interacted with either candidate’s emails.
The rules I try to follow for the various categories are laid out in The Framework.
Donald Trump sent 13 emails on Tuesday, while Joe Biden sent 5.
While there was supposed to be a debate scheduled for October 15, it was canceled due to Trump not wanting to do a virtual event. As a result, neither campaign was talking about the debates. Instead, both were focused on the October 14 FEC fundraiser deadline, with all of Biden’s emails going toward that and most of Trump’s having that focus.
However, Trump did want to offer me the chance to win a signed football (because he saved college football), the chance to become an official Trump Text Member (sign up for his texts today!), and the chance to let him know if I was voting for him (already voted for Biden).
Despite the similarity of content, the campaigns’ tones couldn’t be more different. Biden was worried about not hitting his goal, but otherwise grateful for my support. Trump, on the other hand, was mostly keen to let me know that I was so special, I had an either 825% or 850% match to my donation, depending on which email was the most recent in my inbox, and oh, while he was at it, Biden and Harris were FLOUNDERING and had been going downhill ever since their disastrous debates.
Since anything Trump says about his opponent seems to be true about Trump himself, these emails never fail to put a smile on my face.
