Over the weekend, Donald Trump went crazy with his merch offers.
For all new readers: Welcome! I am currently on the mailing lists of Joe Biden and Donald Trump, though I have previously been on the mailing lists of 28 Democratic candidates! This blog breaks down recent emails with charts and excerpts. If you already know all of this, feel free to skip to the next chart!
It took some time for the Trump emails to kick in, so I started officially tracking his list on July 7. I have been tracking Biden’s for longer, but I will start comparing them as of July 7. All of these emails are going to a new email, and I have not donated, filled out surveys, signed petitions, or otherwise interacted with either candidate’s emails.
The rules I try to follow for the various categories are laid out in The Framework.
Donald Trump sent a massive 30 emails over the weekend, while Joe Biden only sent 8.
And what was it that Trump needed to tell me so badly over the weekend?
Why, that there was Trump 2020 merch!
Between his various contests for signed hats, FREE gifts with a minimum donation, or personalized yard signs, signed photos, and membership cards, Trump was throwing his merch my way as hard and fast as he could manage. Pint glasses, footballs, and unspecified mystery gifts were just a few of the many things available to me as one of Trump’s TOP, most LOYAL supporters, there from the start.
And Biden? He snuck in a “Join the Club” email, after all, not his usual style of messaging. What was his club?
Biden’s email talked about how October 14 was the final FEC filing deadline, and the money raised would be made public on October 22. Names of people who had donated over $250 would be on that filing: his final public donors. If I donated now, I could join the ranks of these people just like me who were helping to support Biden become President.
Honestly, that sounds like a much more wholesome and generous club to be a part of than the TRUMP 1000 CLUB, which gets a gold-colored “Trump $1000 Bill!”
I don’t have the faintest idea why I feel like Biden’s club is kinder than Trump’s, though.
Not a single clue…
