Just because it was only the Vice Presidential Debate doesn’t mean that the emails were any scarcer.
For all new readers: Welcome! I am currently on the mailing lists of Joe Biden and Donald Trump, though I have previously been on the mailing lists of 28 Democratic candidates! This blog breaks down recent emails with charts and excerpts. If you already know all of this, feel free to skip to the next chart!
It took some time for the Trump emails to kick in, so I started officially tracking his list on July 7. I have been tracking Biden’s for longer, but I will start comparing them as of July 7. All of these emails are going to a new email, and I have not donated, filled out surveys, signed petitions, or otherwise interacted with either candidate’s emails.
The rules I try to follow for the various categories are laid out in The Framework.
Donald Trump sent 10 emails on Wednesday, while Joe Biden sent a massive 6.
While the only Trump email not asking for a donation was one telling me how much Trump loved the Freedom 2020 hat (and I loved Trump, therefore I should buy his favorite hat), Biden actually sent a couple of non-donation emails. He reminded me it was the last chance to sign up for the debate watch party, and he told me about an event Jill Biden was doing with educators that I could attend.
Most of the emails focused on the debate, with both campaigns cheering on their respective Vice Presidential candidate, praising their debate performance, and asking me to donate if I thought they did a good job.
And when I say both sides, I actually mean it. 4 of Trump’s emails included some token of praise for the incredible Mike Pence who had spent so much time and energy fighting for the American Patriots, like ME.
Biden, on the other hand, was much warmer with his praise for Kamala Harris, confident in her skills and eager to watch her show the American people why he had picked her to be his running mate.
But only Trump’s email offered me matching gold checks with offers ranging from 800% to 825% to 850% matches.
Biden just asked me to support his cause because it was a good cause.
