Days 502 and 503: 10/3/20-10/4/20

So, I think it’s safe to say that this past weekend was completely unexpected in all of the hypotheses of 2020. We all thought Donald Trump would get coronavirus back in April, not as an October surprise. Apparently, his campaign also thought he wasn’t susceptible to the virus and didn’t know what to do without their fearless leader.

For all new readers: Welcome! I am currently on the mailing lists of Joe Biden and Donald Trump, though I have previously been on the mailing lists of 28 Democratic candidates! This blog breaks down recent emails with charts and excerpts. If you already know all of this, feel free to skip to the next chart!

It took some time for the Trump emails to kick in, so I started officially tracking his list on July 7. I have been tracking Biden’s for longer, but I will start comparing them as of July 7. All of these emails are going to a new email, and I have not donated, filled out surveys, signed petitions, or otherwise interacted with either candidate’s emails.

The rules I try to follow for the various categories are laid out in The Framework.

We are down 10 emails from last weekend.

Donald Trump sent out 15 emails over the weekend, while Joe Biden sent 7.

Sunday came after Saturday, despite the chart order.

Emails this past week have been very interesting, as both candidates fell quiet on Friday, and Trump remained quiet (for him) on Saturday. By Sunday, Trump’s volume was back up, but his content… not so much.

That’s a huge COVID spike

See those 10 COVID-19 emails from Trump? Those were all effectively the exact same email with the same video message from Trump but different subjects. The biggest difference was that 6 of them were written by Team Trump, 1 of them by Mike Pence, and 3 of them by Donald Trump Jr., so the wording was changed to reflect the signer.

President Trump is a true fighter. Even from the Walter Reed Medical Center, he is leading America and putting America First with every decision that he makes.

Team Trump 2020

My father is a fighter.

He is taking this very seriously, but if anyone can beat this it’s him. He is the leader of the free world, he is the hardest working man I know, and he continues to work hard on behalf of the American People from Walter Reed Medical Center.

Donald Trump Jr.

The bipartisan support for President Trump from Patriots around the Nation, and from millions of people around the world, is profound.

No one works harder for this Country than President Trump. While he was given the option to stay in the White House these past few months, he made it clear he wanted to be on the road and with the American People.

Mike Pence, Vice President of the United States

Even as Pence wrote that with a video message from Trump, he also stressed that we can’t stay locked down forever.

Does he not realize how deadly this is?

This shocked me

The first few emails from Trump’s campaign this weekend were almost muted in their explanations of how Trump was sick but we could write him a get-well message. The message then changed to TRUMP IS THE BEST EVER AND WE LOVE HIM SO MUCH DON’T WE ALL LOVE HIM DONATE TO SAY HOW MUCH YOU LOVE HIM! It wasn’t really focusing on me being special, but rather, on Trump being special, so I had to put it as Excited. Over-adoring fawning wasn’t an option on my chart.

ZERO matching offers

However, because Trump is in the hospital, no one is matching donations. I can donate $45 to get 4 more years of Trump, but it won’t come with an 800% match. I can also buy Trump merch at discounted $10-off prices if I wanted a set of Trump-Pence pint glasses or the iconic Freedom 2020 hat that was a high sellout risk months ago and they still have hundreds in stock of (but any day now, it could sell out!)

And then, of course, there was the way I could TRULY show my love for the President in this trying time…

Get Your 'I Love Trump' Tee
Could they have gotten a more pixelated model?

Yes, for the low price of just $30, you too could get this generic t-shirt that isn’t even matching the campaign’s own branding.

What’s Biden up to while Trump is in the hospital with COVID-19? Well, he’s raising money, expressing concerns over the pro-Trump super-PACs flooding the airwaves with lies about Biden. He’s asking my opinion about the upcoming Vice Presidential debate. He’s getting out the vote. And he’s holding Women for Biden events that I’m invited to.

In short, he’s still doing his job of campaigning, and he’s not focusing at all on Trump’s health.

He has more important things to worry about.

Finally, numbers are creeping up again.
