We need to let hate stand alone, but it’s hard when it keeps piling up bigger and bigger.
For all new readers: Welcome! I am currently on the mailing lists of Joe Biden and Donald Trump, though I have previously been on the mailing lists of 28 Democratic candidates! This blog breaks down recent emails with charts and excerpts. If you already know all of this, feel free to skip to the next chart!
It took some time for the Trump emails to kick in, so I started officially tracking his list on July 7. I have been tracking Biden’s for longer, but I will start comparing them as of July 7. All of these emails are going to a new email, and I have not donated, filled out surveys, signed petitions, or otherwise interacted with either candidate’s emails.
The rules I try to follow for the various categories are laid out in The Framework.
Donald Trump sent 14 emails on Wednesday, while Joe Biden sent 3.
14. That’s more than one email every two hours.
What did Trump have to talk about for fourteen emails?
The Supreme Court vacancy and how the Democrats are threatening to impeach him, the “perfect President who has done nothing wrong.”
In addition to the same old emails accusing every person in the world of being against him, Trump also invited me to take a survey (TOP supporters only) on his job performance, offered me a hand-signed, personalized photograph for the very first time EVER, told me about a campaign strategy call only available to those few special supporters who are receiving his text messages, and twice offered to display my name during his livestream of the debate if I donated to his campaign.
Nearly every email about impeachment invited me to become a member of the 2020 Impeachment Defense Task Force, with most of the donation requests including a matching offer to show those liberal mega donors what’s what.
(Who, pray tell, is providing matching donations if not mega donors?)
Biden, on the other hand, was trying desperately to engage me as a member of his mailing list who had never donated before. He was very apologetic for needing to keep asking me for money, but my first donation would never be more impactful than it would be if I donated RIGHT NOW. TODAY. Please. He needs my help in this fight against Donald Trump.
While Trump continued to spew his usual hatred, Biden was grateful for all the support I had given him, even without a financial contribution, and he remained hopeful that we could reject the Trump trajectory of this country.
The debates are coming up, after all, and while Biden isn’t offering to display my name, he is looking forward to facing down Trump on the debate stage.
