There was a lot of breaking news regarding Donald Trump yesterday, but he didn’t bother to address any of it. However, Joe Biden did send an angry email ripping into Trump for completely mishandling the pandemic.

Biden | 3 |
Trump | 11 |
For all new readers: Welcome! I am currently on the mailing lists of Joe Biden and Donald Trump, though I have previously been on the mailing lists of 28 Democratic candidates! This blog breaks down recent emails with charts and excerpts. If you already know all of this, feel free to skip to the next chart!
It took some time for the Trump emails to kick in, so I started officially tracking his list on July 7. I have been tracking Biden’s for longer, but I will start comparing them as of July 7. All of these emails are going to a new email, and I have not donated, filled out surveys, signed petitions, or otherwise interacted with either candidate’s emails.
The rules I try to follow for the various categories are laid out in The Framework.

Donald Trump sent 11 emails on Thursday, while Joe Biden sent 3.

Trump launched several new clubs I could join on Thursday, including the Official First Family’s Circle (pay money, answer surveys) and the Trump 1000 Club (not to be confused with the Trump 100 Club).
While the Official First Family’s Circle assured me that this was EXCLUSIVELY for top supporters ONLY, the Trump 1000 Club was… less specific. Trump 1000 Club is for REAL PATRIOTS ONLY, and I absolutely shouldn’t forward the information in the email to ANYONE.

That’s right, Trump is making his own fake money now.

This email was so bizarre, with it’s green and gold emphases. The donation buttons below this picture were the usual red, but this email was clearly eschewing the usual Republican branding to stage-whisper that it was all about money and wealth. A copy of this email, sent late at night, had the subject “What would you do with a Trump Dollar Bill?”
What do you mean, what would I do with it? It’s not real money. I’m not going to try to spend it.
And yet… isn’t this something kings do? Put their face on the money? You can date ancient coins by the person pictured on them. It makes sense that Trump would want to try to make his own currency, even if it is, like him, completely useless.

Meanwhile, while Trump was gloating over his Nobel Peace Prize nomination (and spelling it wrong in some of his first online ads), Biden was getting down to fundraising.
Biden sent out two fundraising emails, one explaining that yes, they had a record fundraising haul, but the fight wasn’t over and they still needed money. After all, a new pro-Trump PAC had started up with a promise to dump $30 million of ads against Biden, so could I please donate? The other email proudly touted their fundraising numbers, including the record number of donors and first-time donors and invited me to join this record-breaking team with my first donation.
But sandwiched between the two emails were some remarks from Biden about the revelation that Trump knew how bad COVID-19 would get as far back as March.
The coronavirus has been devastating our country for over 6 months. And so much of the reason is because our leaders didn’t take action soon enough.
Donald Trump even said that one day, it would just disappear.
But here we are 6 months later. We’ve passed 190,000 deaths in the United States. And we’ve just learned from Washington Post columnist Bob Woodward that the President admitted — on tape in February – that he knew that COVID-19 passes through the air. He knew how much more deadly it was than the flu. He knew, and he purposefully downplayed it.
Worse, he lied to the American people. He knowingly and willingly lied about the threat it posed to our country. For months.
And while a deadly disease ripped through our nation, he failed to do his job — on purpose. It was a life and death betrayal of the American people.
His failure to act not only cost lives. It sent our economy into a tailspin that cost millions more Americans their livelihoods. This is a recession created by Donald Trump’s negligence and his unfitness for this job.
How many schools aren’t open right now?
How many kids are starting a new school year the same way they ended the last one — at home?
How many parents feel abandoned and overwhelmed?
How many frontline workers are exhausted and pushed to their limits?
How many families are missing a loved one at their dinner table — because of his failures?
It’s beyond despicable. It’s a dereliction and a disgrace.
So today, I want to ask a simple question: Can you continue to live life this way? How much longer can we live in a country with failed leadership?
It doesn’t need to be this bad. And I promise it can get better. I give you my word as a Biden.
Thank you all for your support over these months.
Joe
This email, with the simple subject “Donald Trump lied to you,” didn’t rely on fake outrage of ALL CAPS and RED BOLD fonts. This is how a leader is angry. He doesn’t shout and scream. He is disappointed… but he can move on. He is willing to shoulder the burden of cleaning up Trump’s mess. And he asks if we will join him.
Trump screams and cries about how the left is unhinged, but there is no way you can read the two candidates’ emails side-by-side and walk away thinking that Biden is the one with a screw loose.
The only option Trump has is to keep his supporters from seeing the messages side-by-side.
