Day 451: 8/13/20

After his explosion of the unfairness of Joe Biden picking a strong woman as his running mate, Donald Trump seemed to retreat with his emails.

For all new readers: Welcome! I am currently on the mailing lists of Joe Biden and Donald Trump, though I have previously been on the mailing lists of 28 Democratic candidates! This blog breaks down recent emails with charts and excerpts. If you already know all of this, feel free to skip to the next chart!

It took some time for the Trump emails to kick in, so I started officially tracking his list on July 7. I have been tracking Biden’s for longer, but I will start comparing them as of July 7. All of these emails are going to a new email, and I have not donated, filled out surveys, signed petitions, or otherwise interacted with either candidate’s emails.

The rules I try to follow for the various categories are laid out in The Framework.

I checked ALL my spam boxes.

Joe Biden topped the inbox for the first time in a while, sending 5 emails on Thursday. Donald Trump, on the other hand, only managed 2.

What? No money ask from Trump?

Much to my surprise, Trump didn’t ask me for money at all on Thursday. He held his signed MAGA hat contest, but this time, all entries were free. (Granted, no purchase was ever necessary, but most people don’t take that out of the fine print and share it with their supporters). Trump also invited me to sign up for an exclusive opportunity: I could receive texts from the Trump campaign! This offer was ONLY for his most-dedicated supporters, so if you’ve been getting Trump texts, congratulations: he considers you one of his best supporters.

So much positivity on Thursday!

Meanwhile, Biden has been keeping up his excitement over announcing Harris as his VP choice and the upcoming convention. He and Harris both emailed to remind me that the ticket was now finalized, and could I become a founding donor of the finalized ticket?

Biden also sent an email expressing his gratitude for all of my support, and he sent a survey asking what he and Harris should be focusing on in these last few months.

Finally, Biden sent out an email with many of the convention speakers and the days they’ll be speaking. It’s interesting how many incredible Democrats are on the agenda… and how many aren’t.

Monday: We the People, Featuring Senator Bernie Sanders, Senator Catherine Cortez Masto, Governor Andrew Cuomo, Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Representative Jim Clyburn, Convention Chairman and Representative Bennie Thompson, Representative Gwen Moore, Former Governor John Kasich, Senator Doug Jones, Senator Amy Klobuchar, and Former First Lady Michelle Obama
Tuesday: Leadership Matters, Featuring Former Acting US Attorney General Sally Yates, Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, Former Secretary of State John Kerry, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Representative Lisa Blunt Rochester, Former President Bill Clinton, and Former Second Lady Dr. Jill Biden
Wednesday: A More Perfect Union, Featuring Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Senator Elizabeth Warren, Governor Tony Evers, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, Senator Kamala Harris, and Former President Barack Obama
Thursday: America's Promise, Featuring Senator Cory Booker, Governor Gavin Newsom, Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, Mayor Pete Buttigieg, Senator Tammy Baldwin, Senator Tammy Duckworth, Senator Chris Coons, The Biden Family, and Vice President Joe Biden
This is an incredibly diverse lineup

I will say, ever since Biden picked Harris, I’ve been feeling a lot more upbeat and excited about the ticket. She is definitely bringing the energy that he needed, if the $48 million raised in 48 hours that he announced is anything to show for it.

And yet Trump cries, because she is so MEAN.

The gulf will only widen.
