Day 430: 7/23/20

EDIT: This post was written when Trump’s emails were hiding in Spam. Here is the correct breakdown of this day’s emails.

Donald Trump bookended my Thursday emails, and Joe Biden went back to his old fundraising emails for a day.

For all new readers: Welcome! I am currently on the mailing lists of Joe Biden and Donald Trump, though I have previously been on the mailing lists of 28 Democratic candidates! This blog breaks down recent emails with charts and excerpts. If you already know all of this, feel free to skip to the next chart!

It took some time for the Trump emails to kick in, so I started officially tracking his list on July 7. I have been tracking Biden’s for longer, but I will start comparing them as of July 7. All of these emails are going to a new email, and I have not donated, filled out surveys, signed petitions, or otherwise interacted with either candidate’s emails.

The rules I try to follow for the various categories are laid out in The Framework.

And yet, Trump still couldn’t catch up.

Joe Biden is remaining steady at 3 emails, while Donald Trump’s 2 emails came at 2:08 AM and 9:15 PM. He really doesn’t like to work during the day.

And… no variety.

Biden is focusing heavily on his 100 days out fundraising goal, with all of his emails asking for more money before Sunday. Trump, on the other hand, wants to get me some fancy merch, such as his beautiful platinum membership card, being offered to online supporters for the first time ever (yes, I’ve talked about this on my blog before, because no, this isn’t the first time ever).

He is also offering a brand new, ICONIC hat that will totally sell out, but Trump himself specifically asked the campaign team to make me an exclusive offer.

I needed you to see the formatting here.

Now, based on the name of that hat, what would you envision? I asked a friend, and she said, and I quote:

Knowing Trump’s ilk…a bald eagle on an American flag, probably with an AK-47 in its talons?

It doesn’t have the AK-47.

Limited Edition Freedom 2020 Hat
YOURS FREE with a donation of $35

Nevermind the clear violation of the flag code, or the… questionable appearance of the eagle. This hat is actually an updated version of the Keep America Great Freedom Hat which, when sorted by best-selling on Trump’s website, is…the second-to-last out of five pages of hats, just above the Keep America Great Greek hat.

Note the poorer quality of embroidery on the old version eagle.

The new Freedom 2020 hat is actually the first hat on page 2 of his website… so even though I was given first priority, he’s already offering it to everyone else.

Man, Trump really doesn’t care about me at all. 😦

(Other gems from the Trump hat line include the multitude of gold-embroidered hats. He took all his usual styles and just made the embroidery gold and said “That’s good!” Works okay for text, but for the American flags he embroiders on the sides of his hats…?)

Yeaaaaaah… not so much

Enough about Trump. Let’s look at Biden’s emails.

Oh dear, worried?

Elana Firsht returned with her standard emails of financial distress. They’re pacing behind their 100 days goal, and it’s really super important that I donate now!

Biden himself wrote to thank me profusely: it’s donations from people like me that allowed him to close the financial gap with Trump nearly completely, and to thank me, he’d like to put me on a call list… if I donated to this email.

Finally, the campaign team trotted out an old favorite of theirs: if I knew how much my donation could matter, would I donate right now?

No. No I wouldn’t. Sorry, Biden, but this is a controlled email account, and your emails don’t move me enough to flip to my personal account, hunt down that email, and make a donation.

But hey, I did give to Senator Gary Peters, in Michigan, who is apparently the only Democratic Senator being outraised by his opponent, so donate to him (link to his campaign site) if you have a few spare dollars. His opponent, John James, is a Black man who has boasted about being behind Trump’s policies 200%. I’m a little worried about letting him represent me.

The total emails has surpassed Biden’s age.
