Day 422: 7/15/20

EDIT: This post was written when Trump’s emails were hiding in Spam. Here is the correct breakdown of this day’s emails.

Donald Trump almost forgot to email me before his deadline expired!

For all new readers: Welcome! I am currently on the mailing lists of Joe Biden and Donald Trump, though I have previously been on the mailing lists of 28 Democratic candidates! This blog breaks down recent emails with charts and excerpts. If you already know all of this, feel free to skip to the next chart!

It took some time for the Trump emails to kick in, so I started officially tracking his list on July 7. I have been tracking Biden’s for longer, but I will start comparing them as of July 7. All of these emails are going to a new email, and I have not donated, filled out surveys, signed petitions, or otherwise interacted with either candidate’s emails.

The rules I try to follow for the various categories are laid out in The Framework.

Will Trump’s new campaign manager improve his email count?

Joe Biden sent 4 emails on Wednesday, while Donald Trump only managed to squeak 1 out at 11:55 PM.

So many asks. That must mean… NEWSLETTER DAY!

While Biden filled his emails with plenty of asks, Donald Trump only managed one: can I donate before 11:59 PM to secure my spot in his platinum donors club and get a beautiful platinum membership card?

The email arrived at 11:55 PM. I checked the link the next day: it still worked. I guess Trump wanted me so bad he reset his own deadline.

Biden had more variety here too.

While Biden sent two fundraising emails and his newsletter, he also emailed me about a volunteer group called Biden Climate Voters, which would be starting with a virtual event featuring Governor Jay Inslee and some other special guests. This group’s goal was to mobilize voters across the country who cared about climate change.

As with all his newsletters, Biden was personable, though this one had much more of a focus on the policy he’s been focusing on in all his newsletters. He also included a link to continue to support a charity that provides food for people affected by COVID-19-related financial stress.

Biden’s two fundraising emails were asking me if I’d donate if I knew how much good my donation would do, and also pointing out that things didn’t have to be this bad, but we’re all suffering from Trump’s bad leadership.

Trump just wanted me to join his special club ONLY for the top 500 supporters of his.

Trump has sent only half the emails Biden has.
