The last day of the month actually had one fewer email from Joe Biden than the day before.
For all new readers: Welcome! I am currently on the mailing lists of Joe Biden and Donald Trump, though I have previously been on the mailing lists of 28 Democratic candidates! This blog breaks down recent emails with charts and excerpts. If you already know all of this, feel free to skip to the next chart!
It took some time for the Trump emails to kick in, so I started officially tracking his list on July 7. I have been tracking Biden’s for longer, but I will start comparing them as of July 7. All of these emails are going to a new email, and I have not donated, filled out surveys, signed petitions, or otherwise interacted with either candidate’s emails.
The rules I try to follow for the various categories are laid out in The Framework.
Joe Biden sent 4 emails to each account on the last day of the “end-of-quarter” deadline. I’m honestly surprised at how low that number is.
…though 100% of those emails were asking for money.
And all of those donation emails were purely focused on fundraising.
One interesting note (or two): I’m still getting some of Trump’s emails forwarded to me while I’m waiting for my own admission into his list to start working (I’ve officially gotten one additional email from him touting all of his successes such as a great economy, tax cuts for the middle class, and wall construction).
Biden’s emails praise Biden more than Trump’s emails praise Trump.
This is largely because Biden’s emails are sent by other people (especially recently) who talk about how great a guy Biden is, while Trump’s emails are largely sent by Trump himself. I honestly would have thought Trump’s emails would be more full of effluent praise about how great a President he is, but mostly, they’re about how bad a top supporter I am. Why haven’t I donated yet? Don’t I know that Trump authorized a 600% match JUST FOR ME and his other 50 TOP SUPPORTERS? Don’t I want to be part of his VIP club? He keeps asking why my name isn’t on his list of donors. Do I want to let him down?
Sometimes, there are people who are so abused that they actually think they enjoy being abused. It makes me sad that the people still 100% supporting Trump believe that being ground down like this is what they deserve.
You deserve to be lifted up by your leaders. We all do. We all deserve the basic decency of being treated like we’re good people first.
That’s why it also makes me sad that Biden’s emails have been leaning heavily on that one Obama line: whatever you’re doing, it isn’t enough. Guilt-trips come from both sides of the political divide.
I refuse to give money to someone trying to shame me into it. I have more self-respect than that. You want to be emotionally manipulative, go someplace other than the White House.
