Well, now I’m not sure what is going on with my donor account and Joe Biden.
For all new readers: Welcome! I am currently on the mailing lists of 1 candidate for the Democratic Presidential Nomination, but I’ve been on 28 mailing lists! This blog breaks down recent emails with charts and excerpts. If you already know all of this, feel free to skip to the next chart!
I signed up to all mailing lists either on May 21 or the day the candidate announced, whichever was later. Using a different email address, I have donated at least $1 to all candidates who have been on a debate stage (I have given additional donations to my preferred candidates through my personal email, but the campaigns have linked the two accounts together and may ask for more as a result).
When showing breakdowns by campaigns, there will usually be 2 numbers. Emails to my non-donor account will be indicated by a darker color/top bar in horizontal bar charts. Emails to my donor account will be indicated by a lighter color/bottom bar.
Unless otherwise specified, all other charts combine the donor and non-donor numbers, as they are roughly 1-for-1, so the percentages and relative differences don’t change much. You can divide the numbers in half to get the rough estimate for what someone not signed up twice would be receiving. The rules I try to follow for the various categories are laid out in The Framework.
If you want specific data on any particular day, feel free to drop a comment!
I received 4 emails from Joe Biden on Friday to my non-donor account, but to my shock and surprise, I actually received 1 to my donor account. However, this one email didn’t match any of the four that my non-donor account received: it matched the first non-donor email that did not have a matching donor email, sent on Wednesday. This puts a point in the “email system has a glitch” column, but as of the time of this writing, I have received more non-donor emails and still no more donor emails.
Regardless of whether or not I’m receiving donor emails, Joe Biden’s focus is entirely on donations. The end of the month is creeping ever closer, and it is still more important than ever to give Biden money.
First, Kamala Harris wrote on behalf of her good friend Joe, the lifelong public servant that we really need in the White House, but he really needs our help.
Then, John Kerry wrote on behalf of his good friend Joe Biden, who really needs our help raising money. John knows how much he needs our help, he’s been in Biden’s shoes before.
Then, Biden himself wrote on behalf of himself, telling me that he’s sending me an email asking for money even though he hates sending emails asking for money, because he needs to ask for money. (Again with the heaping negative associations on donating!)
Finally, the campaign wrote, highlighting how many people reached out to me this week asking me to donate money. Even Obama wrote to me, didn’t I see that!? They really need money!
It must really suck, to have a racial crisis overlapping with a health crisis overlapping with an end of month fundraising deadline. I can really see where Biden’s most pressing concern is…
Again, at the time of writing this, Biden’s emails have not mentioned the situation in Minneapolis and breaking across the country.
Not even once.
But he has asked for money three times today.
