And Joe Biden has settled back down to his usual email schedule.
For all new readers: Welcome! I am currently on the mailing lists of Joe Biden and Donald Trump, though I have previously been on the mailing lists of 28 Democratic candidates! This blog breaks down recent emails with charts and excerpts. If you already know all of this, feel free to skip to the next chart!
It took some time for the Trump emails to kick in, so I started officially tracking his list on July 7. I have been tracking Biden’s for longer, but I will start comparing them as of July 7. All of these emails are going to a new email, and I have not donated, filled out surveys, signed petitions, or otherwise interacted with either candidate’s emails.
The rules I try to follow for the various categories are laid out in The Framework.
Joe Biden sent out 3 emails to both donors and non-donors on Tuesday, showing that his 4/20 surge was just an anomaly.
While Biden’s focus on donations wasn’t unusual, what was unusual was a difference in asks between a donor and non-donor email. Biden sent out an email talking about how sacred our right to vote is, and how some Republicans didn’t want to support measures to allow everyone the ability to vote safely by mail. He asked me to sign a petition to tell Republicans to support this. However, if I had already donated, he added a P.S. to the bottom of the email pointing out that defeating Trump was the best way to get some of these things moving, so could I also chip in some more money?
As a non-donor, he didn’t ask for more money.
Aside from the vote-by-mail petition, Biden also wanted to remind me about everyone who endorsed him, including sending an email to celebrate the one-week anniversary of Obama’s endorsement. Woo! Could I donate to stand with Obama and Biden against Trump?
He also recapped the past month, talking about all the primaries he’d won, the way he racked up major endorsements like Obama’s, Bernie’s, and Elizabeth’s, and how his campaign was kicking it into high gear now to defeat Trump.
By the way, could I donate?
